Everything You Need to Know About the ” CIACULLI MANDARINS”
An intense flavor profile, sweetness balanced by a slight tartness, a thin, edible peel, and late ripening: these are the distinctive characteristics of the late-ripening Ciaculli mandarin.
Typically from February to April (with slight variations depending on the year): this is the ideal time to enjoy authentic late-season mandarins.
The Ciaculli Late Mandarin is a unique Sicilian citrus fruit, known for its thin, smooth, deep-orange peel that peels away easily from the flesh. It has a rounded shape that is slightly flattened at the poles and is medium to large in size. The flesh is sweet, very juicy, and contains few seeds, and the fruit gives off an intense, distinctive aroma.
From a nutritional standpoint, it is rich in natural sugars and vitamins B1, B2, and C, which stimulate the appetite, aid digestion, and support the respiratory system. It is also an excellent antioxidant, helpful in preventing cardiovascular disease and cancer.
A source of vitamin C, antioxidant flavonoids, water, and fiber: natural support for the body’s defenses and hydration.
Medium to large in size, with thin, very fragrant skin, very juicy flesh, and a few seeds, as well as a later harvest.
Yes: they’re perfect in fennel-almond salads, fish carpaccio, and glazes for white meats; in desserts, they’re great for jams, curds, cakes, and granitas.
3–5 days at room temperature away from heat; up to 2–3 weeks in the refrigerator (vegetable drawer) in a perforated bag, without washing them first.
Excellent with oily fish, shellfish, fennel, black olives, ricotta, almonds/pistachios, and dark chocolate.
Yes, they may contain some seeds (the amount varies depending on the vintage and pollination).
